Let’s be honest, Rick Ross has fared well due to the amount obstacles he’s faced recently. He has held his own in an ongoing beef with 50 Cent. He has even managed to sidestep the rumors of actually being a correctional officer in his past. With that being said, he serves us the follow up to his successful sophomore album Trilla. Backed by superb production from The J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and The Runners, Deeper Than Rap stands as an exceptional album from the boss himself.

The album leads off with the hot street single “Mafia Music” where he even takes jabs at his rival 50 Cent. Of course the lead single “Magnificent” displays a impressive collaboration between Rick Ross and r&b singer John Legend over smooth production. Other guests on the album include Robin Thicke, Ne-Yo, and the Dream. Also, Trina assists Ross on “Face” which resembles “Money Make Me Come” off of his last album Trilla. With the cameo appearance from Jay-Z on his last album, Ross decided to reach out to another hip-hop legend for the track “Usual Suspects”. NaS steps in as a magnificent addition to the song as he graces the track with an incredible flow.

Not many artists can truly say that they’ve had a trilogy of quality and successful albums. With his third release Deeper Than Rap, it’s clear that the Boss is here to stay and the word “flop” is not in his vocabulary.
